What Size Cuff Should I Choose?

Measure around the centre of the kneecap as shown

Size Knee Circumference (cm)
Small 25 - 48cm
Medium 45 - 59cm
Large 50 - 79cm

Top Sizing Tips

  • For measurements that fall between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size for greater comfort
  • If you do not have a flexible tape measure, take your measurements using a piece of string, then measure the string with a ruler
  • If your joints are swollen, please take this into account when choosing your size

Why Use Cryotherapy to Treat An Injury?

Using cryotherapy to treat injury can produce a number of benefits. These include:

  • Reduces swelling and inflammation
  • Better joint mobility
  • Reduces fatigue
  • Speeds up recovery

Where Can I Use the Cryo/Cuff Cooler Pack?

The Cryo/Cuff and Cooler Pack is designed for use on the knee. This can include use on and around the knee to ease pain and discomfort.

Does the Cuff Cover the Whole Knee Area?

The cuff is anatomically designed to cover the entire front-side of the knee, both above and below the patella, providing maximum cryotherapy to that area.

How Do I Use the Cryo/Cuff?

For information on how to use the cuff, simply follow the steps below:

Step One: Prepare the Cooler

Connect the blue tube to the cooler and fill the cooler to the line with water. Add ice and place the insulation disk on top. Close the lid of the cooler and allow up to five minutes for the water to cool.

Step Two: Apply the Cuff

Rest the cuff on the front of the knee and secure using the top strap. Flex the knee slightly and position the cuff so that the knee cap is exposed through the opening and secure using the bottom strap. (See figure 1).

Step Three: Fill the Cuff

Connect the blue tube to the cuff. If you are using the standard Aircast Cold Therapy Cooler, open the air vent located on the top of the cooler lid and raise the cooler no more than fifteen inches above the cuff. (See figure 2).

Hold the cooler in this position for about thirty seconds or until the cuff is full. Close the air vent on the cooler lid and disconnect the cuff from the cooler by the pressing the metal tab on the quick disconnect valve.

Step Four: Rechill the Water

Reconnect the blue tube to the cuff and raise the cuff above the cooler. This will allow for the water to drain from the cuff back into the cooler. Allow up to two minutes for the water to rechill before repeating the filling process.

For more information about how to use the cuff, see the manual below:

How Do I Use the Cooler Unit?

To prepare the cooler, connect the blue tube to the cooler and fill with cold water to the line provided. Add ice and place the insulation disk on top before attaching the cooler lid and closing shut. (See figure 1).

Perfect for Knee Replacement Recovery

In the first few weeks following knee replacement surgery and even for a long time after that, pain and swelling can become truly intense. Icing the knees regularly is recommended by doctors to help counteract these symptoms, usually around 3-4 times per day for the first 2-3 weeks.

This cooling system is perfect for this post-operation period because of its hands-free convenience, and the continuous circulation of cold water means no time is wasted waiting for the cuff to freeze.

What Do Our Customers Say About the Aircast System?

Don't just take our word for it, see what Johnathan had to say about the Aircast cooler and how it helped his wife after knee replacement surgery.

"My wife had a second knee replacement - the Aircast system has been brilliant in reducing swelling and lowering pain - she just wishes she had purchased when she had her first knee replaced!"

How Long Can I Use the Cuff For?

You can use the cuff for up to two hours per session but it is recommended that you leave a period of at least twenty minutes between uses. Unlike typical ice packs, the cooling unit recirculates the water to keep it nice and cold all the time, negating the need for constant re-freezing.

Can I Apply the Cuff Directly onto My Skin?

To avoid risk of skin burn, it is vital that you wrap the skin of the target area with a cloth or bandage before using the cuff.

How Do I Clean the Cuff?

To keep your Cryo/Cuff clean, simply wash the cuff with soap and hot water before rinsing and leaving to air dry. This process can also be used to clean the blue tube and cooler units also.
